The Vineyard Today
We realised in 2007 that five acres of vines were beyond saving. With expert advice we managed to save the Madeleine Angevine. These vines, which are 35 years old, and planted on original root stock have already won us a bronze medal awarded by the United Kingdom Vineyard Association.
In May 2008, with the help of a company from Luxembourg who specialise in satellite controlled planting equipment, we planted 4,000 new vines with military precision in 3 hrs. 45 mins.
We have planted four new varieties. Bacchus – which will give a quality dry white wine, two varieties of Pinot Noir for a rose and to blend with Seyval for a white/rose sparking wine. These new varieties will be available for tasting in 2011.
Our wine is made for us by award winning wine maker Steve Brooksbank whose new winery is on the other side of Wraxall Hill.
